On Oct 1, 2009 around 100 concerned business owners and residents met to discuss requiring security cameras in some Bibb County businesses, a proposal launched in the wake of several store-related slayings.

The Bibb County commission chairman, wanted the people to tell him what they want. Due to the fact security cameras can help deter or help solve crimes, and they helped lead police to arrests in the two Bibb County slayings.

Bibb County commission chairman is continuing to work with the county attorney on a draft ordinance concerning Security Camera Systems. The draft is only a starting point for these discussions. He said he didn’t know whether the draft would require business security cameras, indoor cameras as well as outdoor cameras, or whether security cameras be required in businesses with an alcohol license or in all businesses. He also stated the sheriff’s department wants minimum standards for the Security Camera Systems and cameras to ensure that the video is usable.

Internet security camera technology is changing the way retailers can monitor their in-stores. Security cameras are set to take on a range of improved abilities over the next five years, with the introduction of Internet Protocol (IP) for video security networks.

In a recent retailing article, Tony Lagan, national business manager video security at Sony Australia, said “IP security camera systems would allow retailers access to a suite of analytical products and options not previously seen on analogue systems. Everything is now going on a computer network when it comes to video security. There’s definitely a big push in the direction of IP, because there are so many advantages to it.”

Ip security cameras offer increased abilities to film specified times, locations and products, as well as filming point of sale transactions when camera system is triggered.

If you don’t want someone going to a certain area of a store, as soon as someone goes there the security camera system can send an email with an image directly to the store manager or security guard cell phone anywhere in the world. IP security cameras are able to be set up anywhere with a data port.   Lagan predicts the penetration of IP into business surveillance would be close to 50% by 2012.

A network IP security camera is a stand-alone surveillance camera that allows a user to view live, full motion video from anywhere on a computer network, even over the Internet around the world.

Security and surveillance camera systems started entering the digital surveillance age. CCD sensors digitize images captured by these surveillance cameras. But these images were still analog connected to VCR’s. Then the idea of DVR’s connecting directly to analog cameras, which made storing, retrieving surveillance video more efficient. PC’s were then used for display of the images through a modem or network connection to the DVR.

The security camera systems now have been digitized; with the new network security cameras have onboard processors and internet server software. These network cameras can be connected directly to existing IP networks, eliminating the coaxial cable networks. Surveillance images can be viewed anywhere with a web browser and the hard disk drive can record the this surveillance video.

If you are someone who travels a lot, you know that there are many times that your home or business is left unattended.  Consider a security camera system with a DVR recording events around your home.  If something is missing, you can easily review the video and submit it to the proper authorities.

The number of cameras coming with a security camera system should be considered. Having too many cameras’ draws unwanted attention. 12 cameras for a 3-bedroom home could be possibly done with a 4 camera system strategically placed.

Purchasing a camera system should be easy, just consider a few things before shopping. Inspect the area of your home to determine how many security cameras are needed. What type of Security Camera System do you need, wired or wireless then color or black & white? Just this information about camera systems, can save you a lot of money and time.

If something bad has happened or you think something bad will be happening. The short story is that you want to feel safe. Maybe you’ve had many break-ins in your neighborhood and you want to protect your home from being next. Perhaps you want to trust your business staff, let’s be realist, you can’t trust everyone. In either case, a security camera system can help reduce the incidents of theft and burglary just by having security cameras out in the open for video surveillance.

Would it be better to have a camera system and not need it, or need a security camera system and not have it?  The worst thing that can happen is, you’ll have digital proof if you need to press charges or go to court.
